“When the why is clear, the how is easy.” Too often, we get stuck in doing all the uncomfortable things we need to do in order to be successful in real estate. Let’s face it. Lots of what we do IS uncomfortable! (yet not all that hard or even all that scary) And that discomfort is right there, smack in our face. While what we get on the other side of that discomfort is pretty murky.
When are we 100% clear on what we get once we are willing to get comfortable being uncomfortable, it makes that discomfort much more palatable. I mean, have you ever tried working out or dieting? Talk about discomfort! And the results don’t show up for weeks or months – ugh! Without a really clear picture of what it looks like once we reach our goal, research, and experience, both show that most of us give up on those goals. Why? Because doing something different is uncomfortable! And we don’t like it! And we aren’t 110% convinced that all that discomfort will be worth it. I mean, what if I I do all those things (eat all that salad) and I don’t get the results? Won’t I just have been uncomfortable for nothing?
Well, there’s probably some good you can find in eating salad (or doing the work to get to the other side of your discomfort), regardless of the ultimate outcome. However, we do know for certain that you are much more likely to get your desired result when you are clear on what it is. And even more likely when you are clear on the actions you need to take to get it.
If you’re stuck, try this. Ask yourself these 4 variations of this question.
When I’m wildly successful in real estate,
1. What do I get?
2. What does my family get?
3. What does my community get?
4. What does the world get?
Oh, and the answer to #1 might be an emotion, rather than a thing.
Give it a shot and let me know – what showed up for you in this exercise?
